The ODBC for RTXHDB is a Microsoft Windows 32-Bit ODBC driver that allows SQL queries of the RTXHDB database. Over the last few years, SQL has become the standard computer database language. Where RTXHDB is the ideal type of database for storing process data, other types of data are more suited for relational or other databases. The RTXHDB historical database software allows these different kinds of data to be accessed and used simultaneously. With the ODBC for RTXHDB, ODBC compliant applications can retrieve data from RTXHDB for use in other applications. ODBC for RTXHDB conforms to Microsoft's Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) standard, a SQL-based facility. Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is the name given to a set of standards that allow a client application to access data in any database without having to write vendor-specific code. Instead, the client application sends queries to a standard interface called an ODBC Driver. Most personal computer applications that can use RDBMS data can work with ODBC for RTXHDB. Examples of ODBC client applications include Microsoft Query, Q+E for Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Visual Basic and Powersoft's PowerBuilder. ODBC for RTXHDB is very useful for applications that combine RTXHDB data with data from other sources, e.g., laboratory data, maintenance data, and cost accounting.
