Watchdog System for RTXHDB
|
The Watchdog
System for RTXHDB is used
to monitor data collection and variable behavior and to alarm accordingly. For
example, if a collection list has stopped collecting for a specified period of
time, the “Watchdog Alarm Notification” program will provide an external
notification that a collection list has stopped. This Watchdog System for RTXHDB is comprised of one or more “Watchdog Scanning” programs and
one or more “Watchdog Alarm Notification” programs, monitoring one or more
selected watchdog databases. The “Watchdog Subset Scanning” program
will periodically check one or more collection lists, resetting an appropriate
timeout timer in the watchdog database each time a collection list’s subset
time span has changed. The “Watchdog Variable Scanning” can be used
to scan a variable’s recent history to determine if the variable is in alarm
or has gone flat-line. A “Watchdog Alarm Notification” program checks each
entry in the watchdog database to determine if the timeout time has expired.
If the timeout time expires, the notification program sets an alarm
indicator in the watchdog database, displays the alarm notification, and
optionally initiates an external task.
Typically, a “Watchdog Scanning” program will reside on
each gateway computer and scan the collection subsets being collected on that
gateway. Typically, a “Watchdog
Alarm Notification” program will reside on the RTXHDB database/file server
and/or on an RTXHDB administrator’s computer. The selected watchdog databases
will typically reside on the RTXHDB database/file server. There may be any
number of “Watchdog Scanning” programs, any number of
“Watchdog Alarm Notification” programs, and any number of selected
watchdog databases. However, each “Watchdog Scanning” program can maintain
its entries in only one selected watchdog database and each “Watchdog Alarm
Notification” program can monitor only one selected watchdog database. The
“Watchdog Scanning” and “Watchdog Alarm Notification” programs will
operate on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or XP platforms. The “Watchdog Alarm
Notification” program will run on Windows 95, 98, and ME platforms in a
‘Monitor-Only’ mode that will only display the status of the collection
subsets being monitored and will not perform any external alarm notification.
The “Watchdog Variable Scanning” can be used to watch specific
variables for alarm conditions. This program works only with expression
variables that specify alarm conditions.
FEATURES
- Provide
notification of collection stoppage by setting and displaying an alarm indicator.
- Provide notification of variable alarm condition via RTXHDB expressions.
- Optionally can alert users by E-mail when running under Windows NT 4.0,
2000, XP.
